Agra to Jaipur Road Trip: Stops You Should Not Skip

Agra to Jaipur is 240 km and takes about 4.5 to 5 hours of pure driving on NH-21 via Bharatpur and Dausa. Done as a straight transfer it is a fine half day. Done properly, with two or three stops, it becomes one of the best road days in North India — and it costs the same in a private taxi.

Stops you should not skip

1. Fatehpur Sikri (40 km from Agra) — Akbar''s abandoned red sandstone capital and the Buland Darwaza. Allow 90 minutes.
2. Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur (55 km) — a UNESCO bird sanctuary; a cycle-rickshaw circuit takes about two hours and is superb between November and February.
3. Abhaneri stepwell, Chand Baori (95 km before Jaipur) — 3,500 steps descending into the earth, and only 30 minutes off the highway.
4. Sikandra Rao dhabas — the honest, tasty roadside lunch stop most tourists drive past.

Planning the day

Leave Agra by 7:30 am if you want all three stops and still reach Jaipur before dark. Sightseeing stops mean waiting time for your driver, so agree on the itinerary before you start rather than adding places mid-route — that is where surprise charges usually come from.

One way or round trip?

A one-way Agra to Jaipur taxi is right if you are continuing your journey and checking into a Jaipur hotel. A round trip only makes sense if you plan to return to Agra the same day, which we rarely recommend — it leaves you with under three hours in Jaipur.
